Skip Links - Accessibility Quick Guide

Skip links allow keyboard and screen reader users to jump directly to the main content of the page and bypass the navigation blocks. Screen reader users may have heading and landmark navigation methods but keyboard tabbing users without a screen reader need a skip link to jump to the main content.

Guidance

  1. Skip link must be the first link on the page.
  2. Skip link must be visible on keyboard focus. (It can be hidden until tabbing.)
  3. Skip link must move the keyboard focus to the main content.
  4. After user activates skip link and tabs forward they must be within the main content.
